探索歯学講座（Department of Translational Research）は「根拠に基づく歯科医療（EBM：Evidence Based Medicine）」の実践を目指します。EBMはエビデンスをまとめ、使う立場で論じられますが、エビデンスがなければまとめることも使う事もできませんからエビデンスをつくることが優先課題です。
　教育では衛生学／公衆衛生学の講義と実習を通して歯科医師に必要な公衆衛生の素養(Public Health Mind)を学生に伝えます。診療では新しい除菌システム（3DS）を用いた除菌外来の開設を目指します。研究では統計学の様々な手法を利用し臨床研究を支援します。また、実験系では口腔細菌学をベースにした診断薬、治療、予防用の新薬と新食品の開発研究を行います。
